Communication Theory (BDIC)

This BDIC course covers the fundamentals of modern communication systems with an emphasis on links that enable wearable and implantable medical devices to operate reliably outside the lab.

Topics

  • Signals, spectra and modulation schemes for low-power wireless health devices
  • Noise, link budgets, fading and robustness in clinical and ambulatory environments
  • Information theory concepts applied to biosignal transmission and compression
  • Security, privacy and integrity considerations for medical telemetry

Materials

  • Course notes (coming soon)
  • Lecture slides (coming soon)
  • Problem sets and worked examples (coming soon)

Assessment and projects

Students complete problem sets and a mini-project that connects link-level design with system constraints such as latency, power and data integrity. Project guidelines will be posted here.
